-Bill Cipher
The characters from the media we consume are just that, characters, fictional beings with no sentience, but what if they weren't? What if they took back control, what if they had even more control than we did...
Before we start, what will be included for both?
What Damien’s nature is tends to be kept vague, because of this we’re just running with all events from the Who Killed Markiplier Series, The Adventures with Markiplier series, any other canon/debatably canon skits and all live streams in which Mark discusses these things.
This includes:
Who killed Markiplier
Heist with Markiplier
Date with Markiplier
In Space with Markiplier
Damien
Wilford Mother Loving Warfstache
All Warfstache appearances
Markiplier TV
Relax
Don’t Blink
Don’t Move
Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye
Monika is a bit more simple.
DDLC
DDLC Plus
Any cool merch we find
Any pictures within the game
And lastly, an important note for two highly meta characters like this, what will be the rules around the fight?
We’ll be taking both at the hypothetical best scenario for them, Damien will be acting as if he’s a character in the fiction of his story and Monika will be acting as a character in her game, that way both have all of their abilities.
Additionally, as Doki Doki Literature Club is a horror game that tackles intense topics including but not limited to suicide, depression and nihilism…
(Thanks to the Mark vs Evelyn Blog for making researching this a bit less difficult. )
Backgrounds:
Damien
"Celine... Some things just can't be fixed... And I'm okay with that, but if you let me help you,
...
maybe we can start to set things right."
“Life is ours to choose”
Was the line that Damien better known as The Mayor lived by.
Damien was always a good person at heart, believing the best in his friends and in people, but this all would change when his former friend, Mark Iplier invited him over to his mansion for a get together of some old friends.
William J Barnum, the Safari Hunter, Abe, The Detective, Damien and of course…
Yancy Nancy-
Came over for a night of fun and drinking, however, after waking up the next morning, the group would discover that their beloved host had been murdered, his body laying on the floor, dead.
Of course the detective would attempt to solve this case, The Colonel wouldn’t care but Damien was heartbroken at the loss of his friend, but as time went on, things within The Mansion seemed strange, lightning struck whenever anyone said Murder, rooms would switch around, doors led to the wrong places and so on, things seemed off.
Made even stranger by the arrival of Damien’s sister, master of dark arts, and Mark’s former wife, Celine. Celine would attempt to speak to Mark’s spirit, to understand what was going on and the strange evils of the house, but upon doing this the real truth would come out, and all of their lives would change forever.
You see, Celine and Mark’s relationship didn’t end on the best terms, Celine would end up leaving Mark for William, and in Mark’s divorce and failing acting career he attempted to take his own life.
But he didn’t die, upon passing onto the other side, he reached a secret other space within the Mansion he purchased, allowing him to return to life.
The nature of the mansion is strange, but one of the primary things it does is it makes the ends justify the means, any plan or action, no matter what will seem reasonable, even if it doesn’t make sense and needs horrible things to be done to make it happen.
This is when Mark hatched a plan, a severely stupid plan formulated by the house itself.
He would set up a party between his friends,
Get William drunk, play Russian roulette with him, Make William shoot him, and frame him for his murder, and steal William’s body…
Thus framing himself for the crime… Like I said, a very stupid plan.
But when Celine summoned him to speak with him, the plan changed, as all the rest of the gang were outside. In a flash of light, Mark stole Damien’s body and trapped Damien and Celine in the upside down world of the Mansion. When William returned to the Mansion to find Damien and Celine gone, he searched around, eventually discovering a room that showed the Detective had been spying on all of them, he ran upstairs to confront the detective, assuming he was the murderer, and in the conflict, he ended up shooting him and…
Yancy Nancy-
Suddenly Yancy was in the upside down with Mark and Celine, you see, while Mark and Celine no longer had physical bodies, Yancy did, and in a flash of light, Damien and Celine entered his body.
Damien woke up inside Yancy’s body, deciding to let Celine rest, he looked in the mirror and decided he would get his revenge, on the man who ruined everything,
He wasn’t Damien anymore, he was Mark’s opposite, his villain, his nemesis…
He was Darkiplier
Monika:
"Even though I knew they weren’t real… They were still my friends. And I loved them all. And I loved the Literature Club.
…
I really…did love the Literature Club."
A wise man once said that madness comes when the ant, for a moment, can see as the human does. Whether or not that comes from a Tumblr post is irrelevant to the conversation.
One day, a group of scientists at the technology company Metaverse Enterprise Solutions wanted to figure out if they existed in a simulated universe, and if they did, figure out exactly how this could be exploited to their benefit. The reason? To save their jobs, and little else. Thus, they created two simulated miniature universes. a main one and a control one with four characters each; A, B, C and D. In the control universe, entity A would be no different from the other three. In the main universe, however, entity A would have Elevated Access to control the simulation, and knowledge that they aren’t real to go along with it.
As the simulation evolved, the characters within got designs and names to make gathering data easier, and to make it easier to understand, the setting of the simulation was changed to a high school with four cute girls. Entities B, C and D eventually became known as Sayori, Yuri and Natsuki; while entity A was given a special name to fit her role: Monitor Kernel Access, or just Monika for short.
Just an ordinary girl running a high school club, Monika came upon a hellish epiphany: that neither she, nor her friends, nor anyone or anything else, was real. And she was trapped there.
In her desperation to find something “real”, to stop being so terribly alone, she created a new character in the game, that a real person would control; fundamentally changing her simulated reality into something of a video game. And that’s where you come in.
Experience and Skill
Damien
“He did say he wanted me to become the villain…
Maybe he should be more careful with his wishes”
Damien is a lot less of a physical fighter, moreso being a manipulator, but he has thrown down on some occasions, having fought Mark on screen.
He’s been shown to be very efficient with an axe, assumedly knows how to fire and use a gun due to having one.
He should be able to use his powers fairly effectively, every single character in the series has been stated to be not knowledgeable on these abilities but have still been able to use them effectively. On top of this he’s stated he’s able to give the player more options than the Actor ever could, implying he has superior control over it, fitting for how much of an idiot the Actor is.
Monika
“Having run the control simulation for a while, it's evident that a certain "character" is missing from any mention or appearance. This makes me speculate that Monika's meddling is less clumsy than we think, because she would have had to manufacture this "character" herself as a way of forcing interaction between her and the user. Could that be why the "character" has such limited and dissonant personality traits? Or am I reading too much into this?”
Monika has never properly gotten into a physical fight, leaving her combat skill lacking, though she is consistently referred to as athletic, at least by the standards of a high schooler. But despite what some people say, her skill in utilizing her abilities is quite significant. It’s noted that she’s created and then destroyed 3 or 4 universes with her abilities, and it’s implied she was experimenting with altering the code for some time before the events of the game.
Monika is outright responsible for the Player character existing at all, effectively meaning she turned her world from a pure simulation into an interactive experience as a way of forcing interaction between herself and people from the “real” world. Given she seemingly created the description on the Steam page and outright acknowledges the fact it’s a game on Steam in-game as well, it’s also possible she managed to release her simulated world as a game in our’s on Steam, which is very impressive given its status as a secret project; even forcing her creators to admit her actions are less clumsy than one might expect.
Dan wants her in Mortal Kombat also :).
Arsenal:
Damien
The Warp Crystal
One of the strongest weapons in the entire series, the Warp Crystal resolves paradoxes as its main goal.
Damien picks it up at the end of In Space with Markiplier.
Its main usage is to create portals between universes, especially when a paradox is about to happen.
It even strangely has control over reality, being able to resist the Narrator's Plot Manipulation and rewind time to help its user.
Damien if anyone is the person with the most control over it, being able to use it to create the box.
The Box
The main maguffin from Heist With Markiplier, the box is a strange artifact that Damien has been shown holding and is even implied to have made.
It acts as a device that strings together every universe, causing events that shouldn't happen, either causing good luck or bad.
It can cause memories of alternate versions of yourself or even the future.
Inside the box is an assortment of various items but it should pretty much have anything inside of it, varying to attempt to help the user but it can also backfire.
Axe
It’s an axe…
He can cut down trees with it…
Gun
Cinnamon and Hot Peppers
Damien used these to beat the shit out of Mark.
The Mansion
Remember The Mansion mentioned in the background section?
Well as it turns out, the entire series takes place within it, with each character only acting within stories in it.
Because of this, aspects of the Mansion and what it does need to be addressed.
The Mansion houses another space within it, called the “Upside Down”,
This is a space people who die in the Mansion go to when they die, their souls staying in there and being able to return if they still have a body.
While within the void people are able to take over other’s bodies, becoming the hosts of them.
They also seemingly are still able to use any sort of abilities they had before entering, meaning they are just as much of a threat.
Monika
Literally nothing lmao
Abilities
Damien
Darkiplier Physiology
Characters within the stories in the Mcu (Markiplier Cinematic Universe) don’t work like regular people,
they have some sort of form of immortality/plot armour.
If it’s not their role to die, they’ll keep on living, pretty much.
This has led to characters surviving things they just reasonably shouldn’t.
To the point that they sometimes act like cartoon characters.
Damien is also dead, another person’s spirit possessing a corpse.
Plot manipulation/BFR
As explained by Mark within his live streams, the stories he tells are just that, stories, canonically. Characters who are aware of this can create their own stories, which affects the world and people around them. These stories ignore the flow of time, lasting as long as possible and with time being irrelevant within them.
These stories affect characters' memories, each person within them becoming a character within the story, having a “script” to follow.
This has led to characters doing a lot of things, these characters Damien should either be equal to or massively surpass in terms of ability.
Abe/The Detective managed to create and follow his own story as the Detective, affecting the world's colour palette, recreating scenes into new ones, and creating objects between shots.
Celine made her own story inside her head, which she trapped Damien within, this story lasted for a VERY long time, as represented by the trees Damien had cut down.
Likely the most notable example, The Actor created and acted out the entire Adventures with Markiplier series, which includes an entire infinite Multiverse inside of it. These universes are infinite and of themselves, infinity upon infinity.
The actor also created a wormhole capable of destroying this infinite upon infinite multiverse, that also has several of its own abilities as listed later on.
The narrator uses his Plot Manipulation to change events that happen to Mark and The Captain, manipulating events like a book
he can move forward in time with glitches
Control events and spaces
Explosion manipulation.
He can pause time.
He can manipulate the warp crystal.
He can break down the universe
And just do anything. Let's be real here idk why I’m listing this out.
Reality Warping
Characters who become aware of the fact that their world is a story have consistently been shown to gain control over those realities,
This is shown with characters like Wilford and Damien himself.
This is explained by Mark as these characters going “Off Script”.
Let's start out with things Damien has done.
He’s created an infinite number of the set of the play.
Gave choices for the player to pick, more than the actor could implying he has much better control than the Actor.
Created a dinner set and table out of thin air.
Took himself and the player to a yard.
When Mark says “Freedom” Damien resets time to send him back to his cell.
Set up clues around in Heist with Markiplier, which would require manipulating multiple dimensions.
He’s sent the player back to the start of the heist.
Another character who Damien should be entirely equal to is Wilford Warfstache who.
Can exist everywhere at once.
Can create wormholes.
Clone himself.
Avoid all physical damage.
Teleport.
Warp the Detectives story.
Control people.
He has telepathy.
He can see the future.
Enter and fuck with computers.
His passive existence and realisation about the world created zombies, broke apart a universe and did this shit.
Mind Manipulation
When creating these “Scripts” Damien along with the rest of the cast create characters for these people to act out and be
This can affect their memories and who they think they are.
Glitches
Damien is always ensnared in glitches, consistently shown in his iconic red and blue (Representing Damien and Celine), these glitches are shown to be quite literal, having broken glass when activating.
Here’s some usages of it.
Passive Static Creation
Darkiplier passively creates a black and white static around him.
Duplication
In Heist with Markiplier, Damien is shown to be able to make copies of himself through glitches, splitting out from his different colours; he has control over them due to them speaking.
He’s similarly done this in Don’t blink.
Size Manipulation
Some of the clones Darkiplier makes are huge.
Teleportation
Damien can teleport himself around.
Shape Shifting
Damien has been shown to be able to mess with his appearance, making his eyes completely black.
He’s also shown to be able to manipulate his face even further than that.
He changed his appearance to look identical to Mark.
Wormhole creation
(Huge shout out once again to the Mark vs Evelyn Blog for helping with this section of the blog)
Not only did the Actor make the WormHole with his plot manipulation, Wilford was able to summon his own Pink Wormhole with his reality warping, and control what it does, so it’s fair to assure Damien is capable of creating his own chromatic aberration wormhole himself, and doing whatever it can do himself.
This wormhole set the events of in Space with Markiplier in motion, and has its own set of abilities.
It has a giant Tommy Gun, capable of destroying a spaceship.
It can create portals between universes, it is stated to be simultaneously existing through all universes.
It has pretty much full control over the multiverse, breaking it down and changing it and things within it into other mediums, like video games.
It’s gone as far as to break down youtube itself.
Its most handy ability is its ability to return people to life, returning them to the body of an alternate universe version of themself.
Even being erased from existence isn’t enough to put down people affected by it.
Monika
Kernel Access
Monika’s main ability is to alter the code of her world, which grants her a wide variety of abilities.
Existence Erasure
Monika is able to delete files, which includes Character Files. Deleting Character Files not only erases someone from existence, but makes it as though they never existed at all, which also causes everything they created to disappear and all people without awareness like her’s to forget about them, though this isn’t instant (as shown when deleting Natsuki deleted her cupcakes after a few moments)
Mind Manipulation
Monika can control the minds of others in multiple ways. The main way she does this is to enhance certain personality traits to make them more significant. She also caused Natsuki to forget certain events, and even directly controlled her. However, her targets seem to have some level of awareness of her control (As seen with Sayori’s poem above).
Transformation
Monika can somewhat transform herself, as seen above. She additionally seemingly caused Natsuki’s eyes to pop out of her head at one point, though whether this was intentional on her part or a side effect of her alterations to the game is unclear. She also removed Natsuki’s face while controlling her.
Time Manipulation
Monika is shown to affect time in multiple ways. In the scene shown above, she prevents the player from making a decision and then suddenly appears, Natsuki and Yuri not reacting to her; possibly implying she stopped time. She also once reversed time, and can erase time itself by deleting the script. She can also likely compare to The Player, who can fast forward time.
Clairvoyance
Monika is aware of numerous events she wasn’t present for, such as Sayori’s final moments. Sayori with Monika’s powers also was completely aware of everything that had happened in the game up to that point, despite technically being a version of herself from the beginning of the game in a new iteration of the game where Monika never existed.
She can also directly remember people she deleted, who are erased so thoroughly that they never existed in anyone’s memories, nor the timeline or plot.
Reality Warping/Plot Manipulation
Monika is able to control the script itself. Not only could she completely delete it, which had the effect of erasing everything in the world. She also noted that she could have altered the script to cause Yuri to bring Coffee instead of Tea to the Literature Club, and also seemingly changed the events that happened after rewinding time.
While she was unable to alter the script to give herself a route as she desired, this is likely due to the nature of Doki Doki Literature Club itself, rather than a limitation of her abilities, as Monika herself describes the other three girls falling in love with the protagonist as “A weird inevitability etched into the game.” Given her ability to both delete the entire script and alter it in smaller ways, she likely could have changed the story to anything she wanted if it didn’t automatically “fix” itself.
As mentioned in the skill/experience section, Monika was able to alter her world to such an extent that she turned a pure simulation into an interactive experience, including a new character that her creators didn’t know about. She also is very likely responsible for her game being on Steam.
Furthermore, she’s been noted to have destroyed and recreated her own universe three or four times. Additionally, one official art in DDLC Plus shows Monika having become so large that some of the stars in the picture are in front of her.
Power Nullification
Monika has shown herself able to nullify the powers of other reality warpers. Not only can she disable The Player’s ability to fast forward and load saves, but she also was able to disable Sayori’s powers when she became president of the Literature Club in the bad ending, which is especially impressive given that position gave her all of Monika’s powers.
Nonexistence
Perhaps the most fitting ability for a nihilist, Monika is capable of simply… not existing and still being completely fine, such as when her file was deleted in Act 3 but she was still capable of restoring the game, and later on deleting Sayori in the bad ending. Character files notably also contain a character’s presence in the script, as removing said files forces their name to be a jumbled up mess of letters when anyone but Monika speaks of them.
We know that character files contain someone’s entire personality (as Monika can alter personalities through the character files), and being removed from the script also means total separation from the plot itself, as well as the script seemingly being time itself. Monika can physically, mentally, temporally and narratively no longer exist; yet is still alive, and conscious and fully capable of using her powers. This also likely means she can exist without a soul, assuming such a thing exists in her world.
It’s worth noting that she lacks a way to return to normal from this state unless she creates a backup of her character file, and that she does not start in this state; but
Hair Manipulation
So on this one tee shirt she holds the rest of the girls in strands of her hair.
Insane.
Higher Plane Manipulation? Idfk what to call this
As previously said, Monika is short for Monitor Kernel Access, which refers to having the highest level of access to the code and data within a computer.
While Monika is supposedly trapped within the game, she’s still able to slightly access the outside of it; in the games download page, finding The Player’s real name and Steam account name, if they’re recording her, and her canon twitter (Though it should be noted that this in particular was gifted to her by somebody else).
So assumedly, since she has Monitor Kernel Access, she should still have her powers even outside of her game, which is supported by the implication that some form of elevated access can exist in any world.
Weaknesses
Damien
As explained by Mark, characters in Mark’s verse don’t entirely have control over their powers and when they happen, although whether this applies to Damien is vague because his powers look more intentional.
Damien has never actually gotten into a fight with another reality warper, the only close example is antisepticeye but the joke of that video is that it never actually happens.
Monika
Even unrelated to her “Hellish Epiphany”, Monika shows clear signs of severe nihilism, outright noting that there’s “no real reason to be alive”, the idea that nothing any individual person does is special and the world at large doesn't care about you and wouldn’t notice you died; and additionally believing she needs to somehow make up for the resources she passively consumes as a human being, believing that if she failed to do that even taking her own life would be too selfish. I feel like anything I could say in response to that would be insensitive in some way.
Of course, this isn’t exclusively a weakness, as it’s clear she never would’ve been able to follow through with most of the things she did within the game without this nihilism, but given how little value she values herself and everything else, it’s not like she’s going to have some kind of breakthrough determination moment where she beats the odds.
(You see the joke is these figures are horrible looking)
Feats
Damien
Overall
Became Mayor of... a place
Lead the other egos
Is one of the strongest reality warpers in his verse
beat the shit out of Mark
Is so hot that he became real
Strength
Broke a mirror
Cut down a branch that was holding up a huge rock
Can manipulate the Actors world (See Cosmology)
Scales to Wilford Warfstache (See Cosmology)
Durability
Has been punched
Scales to Mark tanking this explosion (Large Planet Level)
Speed
Scales to Wilford who has dodged bullets.
Scales to MatPat who has the fastest speed feat ever calculated.
Scales to Slenderman who has infinite speed. (Infinite)
Scales to Wilford who can exist everywhere at once. (Immeasurable)
Scales to and has Warp Crystal which made an explosion that covered the entire multiverse (Immeasurable)
Monika
Overall
Went through the “Hellish Epiphany” and remained far more sane than Sayori did in 2/3 instances.
Seemingly put the simulation she exists in onto Steam in the real world without her creators realizing or being able to stop it
Possibly gave her friends a happy ending where Metaverse Enterprise Solutions could no longer hurt them
Runs a High School club (having tried before, that is not simple by any means)
Pretty good singer and piano player
Power
Has created and destroyed her universe three or four times, including it’s time (Mountain level to Universal+, see Cosmology for more info)
Grew to such a size that multiple stars were in the foreground compared to her (At least Multi-Solar System level)
Speed
Her powers seem to work retroactively. Deleting someone deletes them throughout all time, and she can even delete time itself by deleting the script (Possibly Immeasurable)
Existed and moved in a timeless space (Possibly Infinite)
Has literally never taken damage on screen
Cosmology
Damien
The adventures with Markiplier series takes place within an infinite upon infinite multiverse, this is pretty consistently established throughout the series.
Meaning that there are infinite universes, each universe being infinite in and of itself.
Each of these universes have an infinite number of possible timelines within them, based on the choices mark or the player make, this would be infinite because “Infinite Choices” is a consistent theme throughout the series, Mark even stating this himself.
Because of this, one universe is at a multiversal scale, and the entire multiverse is at a 5th dimensional scale.
Damien should be superior to the Narrator and the Actor,
The actor created the entire infinite upon infinite multiverse and exists outside of it (he scales to Wilford who can destroy it either way).
And most importantly, he scales to the Narrator who is just blatantly higher dimensional.
So these sorts of characters should be reaching the 6th dimensional scale.
The Warp Crystal was able to resist the narrator's control, the wormhole in general has been shown to be outside of his control, but not Wilford’s, who Damien should once again be comparable to, making it on a 7th dimensional scale.
Damien is also heavily implied to be able to manipulate the Warp Crystal so this is a fair level for him.
Monika
DDLC’s cosmology is… somewhat complicated, as even in-universe it’s a simulation. But so is the universe that’s simulating it…?
VM1 (Which is Monika’s world) is noted to be a “small-scale simulation” with “small physical space.” However, this information is from an in-universe project plan from well before development on what would become Doki Doki Literature Club would even start, back when it was going to be little more than a bunch of junk data on a screen.
The girls also all clearly have lives outside of the school that we see, and plans for the future outside of said school. For example, Monika is a vegetarian to reduce her carbon footprint; which would be pointless if there was no world beyond what was seen in the game, no atmosphere to create greenhouse gasses and no sun’s heat for those greenhouse gasses to trap. And we also know that, at the very least, her world contains mountains. And coming from Monika, who is innately aware of the nature of her own world, this does seem to support there being more to her world than what the player sees.
While The Player can only see files for what you can see in the game, it’s important to note that Monika is the only reason The Player can interact with the game at all, and her abilities have consistently been shown to be superior to the player’s, so what the player can’t access isn’t really proof against the size of the world.
Monika is also noted to have created and destroyed multiple universes, meaning the initial size of the universe may not be entirely relevant.
VM2 has VM creation parallel to Metaverse Enterprise Solutions, despite neither group having anybody on Monika’s level of elevated access. The fact VM2 is called a “Medium-Scale Simulation” also could imply it’s the size of an actual universe, since one could assume that a small-scale universe and a large-scale universe would be smaller and larger than a real universe respectively.
Monika surpassing her creators and VM2 is important, since VM1 being a small-scale universe was specifically to save on resources, which implies it’s possible for MES to create a full-scale universe with sufficient resources (Which is supported by, again, the possibility that VM2 is the size of a real universe).
So, realistically, you could consider VM1 anywhere from the size of a city and mountains to a full-sized universe, but regardless Monika’s ability should probably be on a universal scale.
Before the Verdict
What is A “Darkiplier”
Alright so, prolly one of the most important questions I had to ask for this blog.
Wtf even is “Darkiplier”?
The main reason this question exists is cause of why and when Darkiplier was invented, cause the earliest versions of him as a character were fan made, inspired by the various jokes Mark makes where he goes all creepy with effects over his face, this was alongside the various other “Evil youtubers” like Antisepticeye.
Damien was first introduced as “The Dark Mark” but Mark has gone on to say that Damien isn’t actually “Darkiplier”.
He describes Darkiplier as manipulative, egocentric and narcissistic, all of which we would come to learn are the actor's traits, essentially as time has gone on, Damien is less so an example of all the times Mark went evil, and more just his own character.
Is Mark’s channel canon?
Mark’s channel should be considered canon, he’s said that the actor is supposed to be him and of course, Damien and Wilford have interacted with gamer mark.
The Host/The Author
The host was a character played by Mark who appeared throughout the Fandango skits Mark made. His plot manipulation powers at first would seem like a helpful comparison for Damien but uhh…
Mark said that the Host has “Nothing to do with that” so, guess we can’t use him 😭
Unnus Annus
Yeah, there’s prolly some unnus annus scaling I could include but the series is entirely taken down off youtube soooooo…
Essentially using unnus annus would be ruining the point of it for scaling that is absolutely lower than what Damien already has.
Does Monika even work in vs?
Obviously our take on this matter is that she does, but it’s prolly worth going over why and how she works so uhh…
I think the best way to describe Monika is that she’s equivalent to most slashers, if not a more extreme example of them, a lot of the big killer/horror characters pushed for in vs have straight up never been or barely ever get into a fight with people who match them in powers.
Freddy Kreuger for example, is a similar character, his powers are rather situational, he has a an absurd amount of them generally falling under reality warping.
Usually only using his powers to hurt, kill and manipulate others. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t work in versus.
Even then Monika has been able to hold off Sayori’s reality warping, meaning it’s not even absurd to say she has done that.
And as we've said before, Monika is not a character who exists in a game world, she exists in a copy of our world, being able to move about freely her world is just only observed by us through the game she made for us, she would function like most reality warpers.
Monika having all these powers is a point in and of itself, characters like Jack Torrance, are heavily pushed for characters despite having even less feats and kills than Monika, and without even a fraction of the amount of abilities she has. I see this mu working like Nixon vs Manhattan, an mu with all these crazy reality warping powers, but still mostly being focused on a debate and a discussion.
Pretty much the main debunk of this is the line “Monika is an amateur coder” and…
“Monika is an amateur coder”
This has always been a silly argument against Monika, because fundamentally it does not change any of the insane shit Monika has done. Monika being an amateur coder shouldn’t make you less scared of her, it should make you absolutely terrified of whatever a professional coder with her powerset would be.
Additionally, the only source we get for Monika being a bad coder is Monika herself. Someone who is simultaneously a known perfectionist and a self-hating nihilist. She is perhaps one of the worst possible sources for how good she is at coding.
WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK
WHAT DOES THIS ART MEAN??? CAN SHE LEAVE THE GAME??? DOES SHE HAVE THE GAME??? WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS MEAN????
Does Damien just get ability negation diffed?
OK SO, this is pretty important, cause if Monika just denied all of Damien’s powers then she stomps, right?
Well, it’s not that simple, and it all comes down to our old pal the Warp Crystal, let’s start out by establishing why Damien should be superior to the Warp Crystal in terms of ability, first of all, since he’s implied to have made the Box, he should be capable of manipulating the Warp Crystal far better than any other character in the series, having a lot more knowledge on it than anybody else.
Similarly he should be comparable to Wilford who was able to mess with the wormhole, which should be similar in power and similarly out of the narrator’s control.
Lastly, since Damien’s reality warping directly upscales the Actor’s, who made the warp crystal, Damien should be superior to all of its reality warping powers, if not able to just use it to his benefit.
Why is this important? Well, the Warp Crystal was able to resist having it’s reality warping turned off by the Narrator (a character Damien should be similarly superior to), the Narrator’s power of altering the script is incredibly similar to Monika’s and actually a pretty good comparison for her, so thus, Damien should be able to resist his Power being negated.
Verdict
Stats
Stats are fairly simple here, but unfortunately almost completely irrelevant.
Highest end we can get Damien to is 7D.
This is by scaling above the Actor creating an infinite multiverse containing infinite, infinitely sized universes, with infinite timelines within each one, then scaling him above the higher dimensional than that Narrator and then the even higher dimensional Warp Crystal.
Monika on the other hand has the best end in the universal ranges,
There are several direct statements of her world being an entire universe, we’ve seen space and several solar systems within it, and she’s at several points created and destroyed these so yeah, Uni.
Essentially, Monika is absurdly stronger than anything we could possibly comprehend, but Damien is infinitely upon infinitely upon infinitely stronger, and then dimensional bullshit on top of that.
Point goes to Damien, but as said before this barely matters
Both are infinite and or immeasurable in speed, so that evens out also.
Abilities/Arsenal
This is the meat of the debate, and the main thing we ended up talking about with this debate, and to say it’s complex would be an understatement.
Both largely match each other in abilities, reality warping, plot manipulation, time manipulation, mind manipulation, so actually putting a number on who had the better powers was difficult, one way of looking at it would be who was more skilled with their powers, but really there wasn’t a winner there either.
Monika may say she’s a bad coder but she’s been able to manipulate reality fairly well, and while Damien is the best at reality warping in his verse, that’s not saying much as intentionally most of the cast have no idea what they’re doing with it.
Both have experience holding back other reality warpers taking over their worlds, so that isn’t a factor.
As previously mentioned, Monika wouldn’t be able to nullify Damien’s powers but what about Damien doing the same by just altering the game through data manipulation?
Welp, that also wouldn’t really work, deleting or altering Monika’s files doesn’t kill her as we’ve seen, and destroying the game would realistically just set her free from the game and probably make her stronger.
Any sort of body swapping from Damien wouldn’t work because Monika doesn’t really reside within her body, so it wouldn’t mean a win for him.
Monika having clairvoyance would be helpful, but not really a win con? Best argument is it being a counter to Damien becoming omnipresent but otherwise it's not really a game changer.
Likely the main thing that needs to be compared between them is their immortality, and to put it simply, there’s no reason to assume that either could kill each other, Damien would be kept alive by the house and the wormhole with Monika’s consciousness being something Damien wouldn’t have any way to actually destroy permanently.
We considered sealing, but that was something so vague that it was difficult to even say it was an ability he had or if it worked on someone without a soul like Monika.
Tertiary Factors
In terms of tertiary stuff.
Damien is a lot better in a straight up fight, but that’s so irrelevant it’s difficult to count it.
Monika should be more experienced in using her powers however, Damien likely hasn’t had them for all that long, but they should still be equal in ability to use them, so yeah, irrelevant.
None of these are particularly important apart from support, and support won’t be factored into this verdict, this is just going to both.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Damien:
+ Several times over infinitely stronger…
+ More capable in a one on one fight…
= Reality warping capabilities
= About as hard to kill
- … But physical stats are borderline irrelevant
- … But this would never come down to a physical fight
- … But it is actively countered by 4th wall awareness which Monika has
Monika
“The ink flows down into a dark puddle
How can I write love into reality?
If I can't hear the sound of your heartbeat
What do you call love in your reality?
And in your reality, if I don't know how to love you
I'll leave you be”
+ Character files could give Damien trouble
+ Clairvoyance helped her to deal with Damien’s abilities
+ Has actually faced another reality warper
= About as hard to kill
- Infinitely upon infinitely Weaker
Conclusion
(Art by Squid)
After all this research, we’ve concluded these two are absurdly powerful characters, so powerful that realistically?
Yeah there is no winner here, neither had the options to actually put the other down for good.
Really, this fight would go on for eternity, both of their obsessions fueling them in a fight with no end.
This battle is a Stalemate
Next time…
Step one:
I’m sorry
Trollge vs Gorefield (Memes vs R/I’m Sorry Jon)
Welp!
WE’RE DONE!!!!
Took ages but this blog is finally complete, uhhh.
Hope you liked it, was a joint project between me (Squid) and The Smashor, I did most of the Damien research and he did most of the Monika stuff. Great work from him, send him some love if you encounter him in the wild.
My mate Dylan helped out with some art and formatting.
Def rlly fun to research characters like this, who just get really busted and broken the more you look into them, Damien is just my favourite character ever so I’m happy to have researched him now, hope this shows how cool this mu could be in terms of debate and a fight (also why Darkiplier Vs. Golden Freddy doesn’t work at all hehehe) . In the process of making this blog this has become one of my favourite Matches just ever, so I hope you like it!
Bye! -Squid
